Sparzak & Rykoski Families

Genealogical History of the Sparzak and Rykoski Families
from mid-to-late 1800s in Poland to present time

Introduction

The Rykoski family traces its roots in the United States to South Baltimore and Locust Point, where the Sparzak family initially immigrated in the late 1800s. From the Sparzak and Rykoski families and others descended a network of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This narrative chronicles the origins of these families, their events and experiences, residences and occupations, family stories and other information that the family has contributed to recount the family history for future generations.

In addition to conducting extensive genealogical research, family members have provided contributions based on their recollections as well as artifacts including documents and photos. Their contributions, supplemented by extensive narrative is included herein. A family tree is also maintained and is available on Ancestry.com.

While the European history of these families is more difficult to reconstruct, the details of the past 125 years is more accessible and will be chronicled in more detail.

Enjoy the content of this document and the associated Ancestry Family Tree information.  Family members should be proud of coming from an interesting heritage.  If we don’t occasionally revisit the details of our ancestors’ lives their experiences and our memories are lost to time.  We can honor and respect those who came before us by appreciating what they experienced, how they lived, and the events that led to our being here.  Our history is in the past, but those of you who represent future generations of our family are in the process of creating history for those who follow.

In deciding the writing approach, it was decided that citation of sources would not be a major emphasis since this is not a scholarly document destined for publication. Avoiding “choppy” and difficult to read narrative was a primary objective.  So the narrative was developed in a way that provides for a fluid and cohesive narrative, rather than a compilation of specific excerpts from different sources. Content is not cited in a scholarly manner. Sources can be determined by consulting the bibliography and associated family documentation that is in the author’s possession.

You Can Help

If ANYONE in the family is interested in helping with some of this research, please let me know and I will help you get started.

In particular, the most valuable way you can help is by identifying mistakes and letting me know (kesslertg@gmail.com) and contributing photos (any and all), narrative describing your memories — parents, grandparents, growing up, family lore. I will incorporate it here and it will outlive all of us in this family repository.
